The vines to this vineyard are aged about 20 years, giving a breakdown of Merlot 60%, Cabernet Sauvignon 30% and Cabernet Franc 10%.Traditional vinification takes place in thermo-regulated vats for 25 days before being aged in new oak casks (15 %) and vats for an additional 12 months. The Commanderie dates back to the Crusades, when in the 13th century the knights of St. John of Jerusalem created this powerful military and religious organization. The Commander of this organization made his home on this property, hence the name. Now in the same family for two centuries, the proprietors of this property have created one of the finest wine estates in the Entre-Deux-Mers region.
The wine is well balanced, refined in the mouth with a delicious bouquet and rich in tannin to provide long cellaring. A great wine for the price, produced at surprisingly low yields. Deep purple in color, with good fruit and roundness on the nose and palate, a touch of spice and a firm, balanced finish.
