Exotic, Rich and Balanced Domaine Bottled Chardonnay
Made from the oldest vines on the property, this exceptional Chardonnay is aged in one-third oak of which one-third is new and the balance in small stainless tanks. Complex from low yields and an exceptional attention to details, this wine’s richness hides behind its youthful bright fruit and bold acidity. As it ages, it becomes a wonderfully expansive Chardonnay with a myriad of flavors and aromas that explode in your glass. There are few Pouilly-Fuissés with as much Burgundian character and complexity as this one.
Virtually all of the previous vintages that we have brought in have received acclaim in The Washington Post, The Wine Spectator (85-90 Points), 'Bourgogne Aujourd'hui' as well as other French publications.
This is the old vine bottling, with the most oak and acidity of Melin’s offerings. The vines are 45 years old or older. The color is bright green-yellow with lemon, green apple, and lemon custard aromas with some exotic fruit tones. On the palate, it is big, fat and rich but with excellent balancing acidity. Oak flavors are very subdued, showing only a slight oak character from the new barrel but lots of texture from the old ones. Nicolas ages only one third of this wine in oak, with typically one third new each year, and the balance in stainless steel vats.
